The 21st century has witnessed three separate coronavirus pandemics, with Covid-19 causing the most significant global health crisis since the Spanish Flu pandemic a century ago. In this report, attention is drawn to the phenomenal increase in coronavirus research this century and how this compares to other contemporary pandemics.
Covid-19 research has been unprecedented in its magnitude and truly global reach. Research is dominated by the US and China, but localised effects have driven some countries to greatly invest in research.
